There are several ways to Save a layout in iModel. It is important to understand the different ways the software will save your layout and that it is good practice to make additional save points additionally to those listed below.
Every job will contain three .lay files:
JobName.lay: Created when a job is first started and only updated if you save to it.
Autosave.lay: Autosave is based on the Layout Settings\General Tab where you can designate how often it is updated. It is recommended to set it at 2-10 minutes.
Last$Lay.lay: Created when you move from iModel to a different part of the program. When you click on the iModel icon while in iModel it will update the last$lay/lay file.
Additionally, you can use Save As to make multiple save points throughout the design process. For example after you add walls make a save point called walls.lay. After you add planes make a save point called planes.lay etc. Making a save point throughout the design process will give you several backups to restore from if needed.
