Issue: Blank Site Code / Site Key in Alpine Software
Important Notes Before You Begin:
- Close all instances of Alpine software before starting any troubleshooting steps.
- You must request the "Security Driver Fix" folder from a Help Desk team member before proceeding.
Symptom
You may encounter the following error message:
Error Message:
Security Initialization Failed: Network: Reply from the network driver is bad.
This typically occurs when Alpine is unable to retrieve or display the site code, leaving the field blank.
Background
Alpine uses CrypKey licensing to authorize software usage. Occasionally, issues with the CrypKey security drivers can prevent the site code from displaying properly.
Resolution Steps
- Open Task Manager
- Navigate to the Services tab.
- Locate CrypKey License.
- Right-click and select Stop.
2. Double-click the .bat file included in the folder.
-
- This will launch a Command Prompt window that attempts to delete outdated or corrupted security driver files.
- Note: This automated process may not always succeed. If files remain, proceed with manual deletion.
Manual File Deletion (if needed)
1. Search for and delete the following files manually:
- ckconfig.exe
- ckrfresh.exe
- setup_ck.dll
- setup_ck.exe
- ckldrv.sys
- crypserv.exe
- esnecil.ind
Tip: If you cannot locate or delete some of these files, continue with the next steps—partial cleanup may still allow successful reinstallation.
Step 2: Reboot the Computer
Restart your system to ensure all changes take effect and any locked files are released.
Step 3: Reinstall Security Drivers
- Navigate to the provided security folder.
- Double-click the file named SetupEX.exe.
- This will reinstall all necessary CrypKey security driver files.
Final Step: Verify Site Code Availability
After installation:
- Launch the Alpine software.
- Navigate to the Site Key section.
- Your Site Code should now appear, allowing you to re-authorize the software.
