When applying the ASCE 7-22 wind design method, it's essential to consider the potential for tornado wind loads. These loads may need to be incorporated based on various factors, and the responsibility for determining this requirement falls on the designated Building Designer.
Typical Criteria for Tornado Wind Loads
- Category III or IV Exposure only
- Location within Tornado-Prone Regions
- All building within the designated plan area are affected
Steps to Add Tornado Wind Loading for a project
- Open iModel and go to the Settings menu.
- Click on the Job Settings option.
- Find the Wind Loading section.
- Enter the appropriate Design wind speed for your project.
- Input the Tornado speed as identified in your criteria.
It’s essential to remember that the final wind loading criteria should always be determined by the Building Designer.
Once the Tornado load has been turned on, you will see an additional load case for each wind load with a "t" designation when viewing the load cases being applied. Once analyzed and printed, the truss printout will have a new tornado load note under the WIND section.
